Mozilla recently released an update for Firefox to fix a potential security threat. This update is available through auto-update.
The update only fixes one flaw in Firefox related to the Javascript “garbage collector” which may cause crashes in Firefox. While this problem has not been exploited for any purposes, Firefox isn’t going to wait till it is. This is not a feature release, so no new features are added.
An interesting note is that this update fixes only one issue, unlike other updates that normally patches several issues at once. In addition, the security flaw was fixed as soon as it was announced (i.e. on the same day). A pretty impressing feat, considering most other browser makers (notably Microsoft) prefer the all-in-one approach, compared to the bit-by-bit approach used by Mozilla.
Software piracy is a growing concern for the modern society. It was an issue since the very first day commercial software hit the shelves. Initially it was spread within friends and/or communities via cassette tapes or floppy disks. With the development of the Internet, software piracy has spread exponentially. The phenomenon, in its current form, was not considered a serious problem until the early 1990s. Since them, there are a series of worldwide organizations that deal with software piracy. Mainly Software Publishers Association, Business Software Alliance, Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), as well as American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI).
Software piracy impact needs to be judged depending on various factors, such as living standards and geographical zones. Arguably, the industry may benefit from the software piracy process, which is not that bad as they present it, and it represents a good way to test the products a company develops, it leads to increased awareness and contributes to the popularity of various software development companies and, in the long run, results in increased profits for both parties.
If you hate the look of Aero, click Start/Control Panel/Themes and you can choose a non-Aero theme, such as Windows Classic.
2. Windows Vista’s installer can detect serial-ATA (SATA) drives without the need to provide a driver diskette. Don’t bother creating a diskette for your SATA drives before you install Vista.
3. If, for some reason, the Vista installation gets interrupted due to an unintentional shutdown or reboot, start the computer without booting the Vista DVD. Windows Vista’s installer should pick up where it left off. If it does-n’t, then restart the installation over from scratch.
4. When you perform a search with Vista’s new, instant search feature, you can save the search in a special folder. This powerful feature allows you to create a virtual folder which, by default, is saved in your \\Searches\ folder. Every time you open such a folder, the search results are updated.
5. In Windows Vista, you can add additional clocks to the system tray. Click the clock, and then click Date and Time Settings. Click the Additional Clocks tab. You can add one or two additional clocks to the tray and select their time zones.
6. You can save your progress in most of the games included with Windows Vista—even the carry-overs from earlier versions of Windows.
7. You can create XML documents, which are more secure than regular text files or even word processor docs. Just create a document in a word processor, print it via the options menu, and select the XPS printer.
8. If you upgrade your graphics card in preparation for Windows Vista, be sure to get a new card with as much local memory as possible. Since Windows Vista renders everything—even the desktop and windows them-selves—as 3D surfaces, local 3D memory greatly improves performance…sometimes even more than a more powerful GPU.
9. Use the Ctrl + Alt + Del to open a window where you can access the common functions including the task manager, this will let you close programs even when the computer is sometimes frozen.
10. When you open new folder use the navigation items to be able to access more folders within the same window, moreover you can go back/forward to a folder/file you accessed earlier without closing the last window.
hope this will give you an enhanced experience

The holy grail of all us people who work in Firefox day in, day out (and, unfortunately, often endure slowdowns and lockups) - Firefox version 3 - seems to be near completion. As of today, Firefox 3 beta 2 is available for download and testing purposes; however, don’t get your hopes up just yet. As the folks of Mozilla say, “with this second beta, you’ll get a taste of what’s coming in Firefox 3, but there’s still more to come, and much of what you’ll see is still a bit rough around the edges.”
Still, if you’re the adventurous type, it’s worth trying. since it includes “approximately 900 improvements over the previous beta, including fixes for stability, performance, memory usage, platform enhancements and user interface improvements.” Much of this stuff comes from the community feedback from the first beta.
Some of the improvements (some are from beta 1) that caught our eye are:
- clicking on the favicon now gives information on the site owner
- Firefox now informs anti-virus software when downloading executable files
- better password management
- download manager further improved from beta 1
- resumable downloading (there is a God after all)
- text selection improvements (word by word, paragraph, multiple text selection)
- better integration with Vista, Mac and Linux
- single-click bookmark adding
- web applications, such as Gmail, can now handle mailto: links
- major architectural changes which should result in a speedier performance
- 300 memory leaks plugged (a very important fix that should hopefully reduce those slowdowns to a distant memory)

Firefox has just been updated to version 2.0.0.9.
This stability update corrects several problems that were found in the previous release, Firefox 2.0.0.8.
The 2.0.0.8 release fixed some 200 issues, but accidentally regressed a few things. Most users won’t see any difference or experience any problems, and those 200 fixes make the 2.0.0.8 update very valuable.
The specific problems are: …
